DEAD IN REAL TIME

Lorrie bobbed in the water in the shadow of the Princess Mishail, surrounded by a half dozen of the Allens plus Carla. They wore thin wet suits and light floatation vests, which let them ride low in the cool water, and Lorrie could have stayed there the rest of the afternoon. “Okay, gang,” she said. “We have to be letter perfect on this in the next two days.”

“What happens then?” Alvorsen asked.

“This tub heads south to our base and stays there until we head for the Red Sea. So practice time is limited.” She paused. “Of course, you can always practice when she’s docked in Bahia San Andres, but the water down there’s a little sharkier.”

Big Jones and Kowinski raised their eyebrows in alarm at this, and Carla laughed. “She’s jerking your chain, guys.”

“Am not. There are more sharks down there. I never said they were more dangerous…” She grinned. “Okay. She just used that lever to pump air into the chamber. Carla, you want to show ’em how it’s done while I jabber?”
